Cat Ba Island from the fort Vietnam

As we embarked on our exploration of Vietnam, we found ourselves both immersed in the rich tapestry of Ho Chi Minh City, the charm of Hoi An, the bustling energy of Hanoi, and the quietness of Cat Ba Island as well as questioning the point of our trip. Our journey was not just a physical one; it became a philosophical quest to understand the essence of travel as it relates to our life purpose, and the deeper meaning it could hold for our lives.

For us, travel wasn’t merely about experiencing new landscapes and cultures. It became a reflective journey, prompting us to ponder the fundamental question: Why do people (we) travel? As we strolled through the chaotic streets of Ho Chi Minh City or meandered through the lantern-lit alleys of Hoi An, we knew already and understood that amidst the what should be breathtaking landscapes and cultural encounters, we felt a distracting calling, a sense of purpose awaiting us back home in England. Even before our travel experiences in Vietnam we knew that our 2023/24 travel was far different to our 2015 adventure as it was more of a stop gap before we could start our main adventure in life, a future that would involve creating a family, finding a place to call home, and navigating the ever-changing landscape of the housing market and economy in England.

Vietnam became a pivotal chapter in our lives to help shape our perspectives as a couple, and paving the way for our greater purpose that we felt awaited us on the shores of England. Exploration of the world is a testament to the transformative power of travel and the exciting possibilities it unveils for those willing to embark on the journey, which we both felt back in 2015, however, this time we already knew what we wanted in life but Vietnam just helped reconfirm and cement our realisations of our already known life objectives making them even clearer once we said outload.
